When I first connected with an editor, a surge of strength compelled me to share something profoundly personal. Having previously opened up about this experience several times in a church setting, I believed this opportunity was prime for further transparency. However, as the moment to reveal my book cover drew near, doubts crept in, accompanied by anxiety and shame. Uncertainty about how people would perceive me led to a fear of evoking pity. To be completely honest, I found myself praying for God to close this opportunity several times. Yet, against my apprehensions, everything began falling into place. Recognizing the challenges ahead, I proactively sought support from a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. My goal was twofold – to prepare myself for the impending challenges and to ensure that I didn't navigate this journey in isolation. Now, if you ask whether I consider myself to possess THAT strength, the answer is a resounding no. Any strength within me to undertake this journey has been entirely a gift from God.

Navigating transparency in this book posed a significant challenge. In the introduction, I provide a cautionary note about the explicit details in the initial chapters. The decision on the level of detail in these scenes was a constant struggle for me. Initially, I wrote the scenarios with a high level of graphic detail. However, upon realizing the potential impact on readers who may have experienced similar trauma, I chose to revisit and generalize those specific graphic scenes. Nevertheless, I intentionally retained certain key scenes that some may find too graphic and intense. My reasoning behind this decision stems from a firm stance against limiting the discussion on this topic. Throughout my journey of sharing my story, I've encountered individuals attempting to place restrictions on addressing such sensitive matters. My perspective is rooted in the acknowledgment that our society freely discusses sex—it's a normalized part of our culture. We encounter explicit content in videos and books regularly. So, while scenes depicting sexual abuse may be graphic, isn't that a reflection of the harsh reality that occurs more frequently than we might realize? In the book, I guide you through what my eyes witnessed to shed light on the true extent of the trauma it inflicts. I've carefully selected key scenes that profoundly impacted my life. But overall, I consistently encourage readers to approach these chapters with the support of a spiritual leader.

Having personally experienced the thoughts and emotions that kept me from disclosing my own experiences for years, I believe it has deepened my empathy for survivors on a profoundly personal level. Throughout my journey of sharing my story, the incredible number of brave survivors I've encountered never ceases to amaze me. While I wholeheartedly advocate for this crucial topic, I tend to exercise caution when it comes to encouraging survivors to speak out. (This hesitation is particularly applicable in informal settings.) I firmly believe in respecting each survivor's unique journey and choices. My primary focus remains on advocacy and offering unwavering support and guidance throughout the healing process.
